Honduras Threads
Honeycomb on beige
A honeycomb design from our 20x20 21st Anniversary Exhibition. The bright thread of the hexagonal pattern is a lovely contrast on warm beige fabric. Designed by Jessica Lendvay.
Every cent of every piece sold goes back to our associates in Honduras. Every day, these women expertly craft table runners, pillow covers, shawls, and other fiber arts items. Their income from each sale covers food and medical needs for their whole family, and school supplies and transportation to school for their children. Ultimately, this work creates dignity and self-respect.
“I hoped to inspire my artisan partner through our universal love of geometry, pattern and repetition in design,” Jessica Lendvay says of this design. “I modified a Lynn Ford design from his hand-carved wood screens made for a Scott Lyon's home built for the McDermott family in Dallas around 1970. The asymmetrical hexagonal pattern implies movement and depth allowing for many interpretations for my partner. The original pattern may be related to the work of Texas Instruments and the connections made through the development of semiconductors and integrated circuits. The hexagon shape is also found in the honey bee's instinctively created honeycomb structure. As bees work together, in community, to create for their collective higher good, they also pollinate most of the world's food. Through this pattern and the making of this pillow, there is a story of our connection to each other, to the bees, to the earth and our opportunity to do good for each other through our work."
